Tamia Dayanari Poret,
Soprano


 

Tamia Dayanari Poret, soprano, is on a mission to champion the music of her Black, Creole, and Latin heritage through vocal performance, outreach, and mentorship. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Xavier University of Louisiana, where she received the Sister Elise Sisson Award for Excellence in Music Performance,

She completed her Master of Music at Loyola University New Orleans under the guidance of Irini Kyriakidou-Hymel.

 

While performing in productions at Loyola University New Orleans, Tamia was also part of OperaCréole’s production that debuted Morgiane, Edmond Dédé’s 1887 grand opera, which toured to New Orleans, Washington, D.C., New York, and Maryland in early 2025. She placed first in the 2024 NATS Southern Region competition, showcasing her vocal ability and artistic range. That same summer, she expanded her international experience by participating in the prestigious International Young Artist Program in Germany.

 

Tamia has performed in a wide range of operatic roles, including Mimì in La Bohème, Magda in La Rondine, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, Micaëla in Carmen, and Salud in La Vida Breve. She holds a strong artistic interest in African American and Latin American vocal repertoire and is deeply committed to bringing these rich musical traditions to the forefront of classical music. 

 

Offstage, Tamia is equally passionate about education and mentorship. She teaches voice and piano through Beyond the Studio LLC, where she nurtures the growth of young musicians with a focus on strong technique, creativity, and confidence. She continues to use music as a powerful tool for cultural celebration, community connection, and artistic empowerment.
